Gary Ferguson

Gary Ferguson

Gary Ferguson passed away Monday, March 30, 2015, at his home. He was born March 21, 1947 in Oklahoma City to Leroy and Meri Ferguson. The family lived in Purcell, Okla., until the late 1950s when they moved to Billings. Gary graduated from Billings Senior High in June of 1965 and left for USMC boot camp at Camp Pendleton shortly thereafter. He served in the Marine Corps Reserves in Billings and Denver until 1971.

In 1972, Gary bought a dump truck, beginning 42 years of construction hauling in Montana and Wyoming. He worked on highway, public utility, mining, and environmental cleanup jobs from Cheyenne to Babb and Plains to Circle. Locally, he hauled from additions to both Billings hospitals, all three Billings area refineries, many new businesses and countless new homes. He and his big green truck were all over this town. He wanted all his construction friends to know how much he enjoyed working with them and how much he appreciated their friendship. Gary married Karen Morris in 1979 and they welcomed Charlie into their lives in 1989. The biggest joy of Gary’s life was being Charlie’s dad.

Gary was preceded in death by his brother Ron; his parents; and close friends Kip, Marvin and Frank. He is survived by wife, Karen; Charlie of Bozeman; brothers-in-law, Walt and Ken Morris in Choteau and Fairfield; niece, Heather in San Antonio, Texas; and nephew Spencer in Great Falls.

In keeping with Gary’s wishes, no services will be held. Dahl Funeral Chapel handled cremation arrangements and memories may be shared with the family at www.dahlfuneralchapel.com.
