Beverly Johnson

Beverly Johnson

Beverly Johnson and I became friends while attending Lewis and Clark Junior High.  She and I had several common interests and similar personalities.  As the daughter of a pastor, she had access to her church's auditorium and I have very fond memories of sleepovers at her house where the "entertainment" for the evening was playing  the piano and organ together in the empty church.  She took the piano and I enjoyed accompanying her on the organ.  Her sister, Joyce Johnson -- some of you who attended Highland Elementary School may remember her as a second grade teacher there -- would drive us both to evening plays and recitals at the Junior High in her new, sleek, black '59 Ford Fairlane!  We felt chauffeured  in luxury!  Beverly and I began to lose track of each other when we went to different high schools, but our friendship remained.  We'd meet at the city-wide Singspirations and other church events which caused our paths to cross.  After high
school, she attended Northwest College in Minneapolis.  Soon after graduation, Beverly married a man she'd met at college and together they farmed near Wolf Point.  They had a son and a daughter.  We never stopped writing to each other.  One day in 1989, Joyce called me at work with the news that Beverly had died early in the morning, having awakened with chest pains.  Before her husband could get help, she was gone.  Always I had intended to renew our friendship when we both were less busy raising our children.  I valued her friendship, quick giggles, and nearly as quick blushing.  She was a dear friend!

Thank you, Joy, for this rememberance.  I remember Beverly as being shy, and it was good to know more about her.  I do recall how she would blush!  She had smile that made her face just light up when she was tickled about something.

I didn't know Beverly very well but, I too, remember how she blushed . It was as though her cheeks were on fire . If I remember correctly, she also had very blue eyes an a little lisp-she was so sweet.
