Wow what a life.  I don't remember Tom much if at all.  Another great BHS '65 grad

Tom's dad and mine were lifelong friends from Beulah, North Dakota.  As we grew up, we were never really close, but as children played together and made some lasting memories.

His life had tragedy from an early age.  His mother had just delivered a baby and was resting in their home on the heights.  Tom and his brother Joe were playing and accidentally started a fire in the wall heater.  His mother and baby sister died in the fire.  He and his brother lived.  Any of you who knew Tom will remember the prominent tracheotomy scar he bore for the rest of his life.

It was heartwarming to read this tribute and see what wonderful things he went on to accomplish in his life.  Thank you for sharing.

I can't believe I never knew Tom.   I am so impressed with how he found his calling, even more so after reading Susan's account of his tragic childhood.  Thanks to all for finding and sharing this information.

Such tragedy for a child especially.  So glad he found joy in his later years.

My Tom Cox story is that we shared farm shop, at that time he drove an Austin Heally and was working on restoring an older British bike,BSA or Triumph. Hadn't heard from him since a high school.

I didn't know Tom in high school either. Reading about the tragedy in his life brought tears to my eyes. In spite of the burden he had to bear, he certainly reached for the stars. Well done, dear classmate!

Like many of you I don't remember Tom or vaguely remember him, but what an incredible life he had and I imagine he was a teacher who not only stimulated students but kept them engaged. BHS turned out some fine graduates!

Sounds like he was quite a character and a treasure!
